We are excited to announce that tickets are now on sale for The Right Note by Jerome Joseph Gentes and Rice Majors!
Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night is updated to our contemporary world, where the major characters are competing on a singing reality TV show called The Right Note. At the start of the play, eliminations are down to eight contestants. The upcoming live TV episode will feature “Dynamic Duets,” during which the remaining contestants believe they will be able to pick their singing partners. One contestant has gone missing, though, and his twin sister takes his place during the dress rehearsal to keep him from being eliminated by default.
If you live in the San Francisco Bay Area and are a musical fan, you know that some of the biggest hits have started with workshop performances here in our theatre community. We have a large community of musical theatre creatives living and working here. With incubators like the successful showcase program, Musical Cafe, there is also now a fledgling pipeline for those works to start their development journey without the resources the big theatres have.
Spare Stage is very pleased to be taking one of the musicals showcased at Musical Cafe in 2016 and giving it the next step in development with 6 workshop performances in November and December. These performances will provide you the audience – the musical theatre loving audience – a chance to give the creative team your impressions and feedback. Just being in the audience helps the team know important information about how well certain moments work or don’t. Your direct feedback is even more invaluable.
These performances will include live accompaniment with a 4 piece, some lighting, sound, costume, and prop elements, and will be staged and performed off book.
